Pooch's August updates

Three on time updates? What is this madness?!

Madness. It won't last....

1. Paint something bought before 2024

So the push to paint all of my Late War US forces continues, starting this time with a whole bunch of infantry...

Three bazooka teams

Three rifle teams

Another three rifle teams.....

And another three rifle teams!

Which amounts to about half of the total amount of infantry I need to get done to be finished with the whole army. Progress is good!

I also finished up some more vehicles, first up some transports for the infantry...

5 M3 Halftracks!

As well as some more Shermans, this time with hull flamethrowers and fuel trailers! The hulls, trailers and trailer bases were all printed by Potbelly Miniatures, the turrets are Battlefront plastics, which keeps all of the Shermans looking consistent across my army.

Four flamethrowing fun tanks!

So muddy. So messy. So cool.

2. Paint something bought in 2024

Hey look, it's MORE tyranids! I'm continuing to knock through them, this time finishing up:

The first Carnifex, Old One Eye themselves!

Scything talons, crushing claws and a winning smile.....

Just in time to be totally nerfed, everyone's favourite spore mine shooter, a Biovore!

The new kit is awesome!

Little ol' Ripper Swarms. So cute....

And some more spore mines. Because, floaty death mine.

I wasn't intending to get quite so many Tyranids done, but it's awesome to have made that progress! I'm going to have to keep up a similar rate if I want to have the whole backlog done by the end of the year....

3. Play a game of 40k each month

The Tyranids were back fighting the Blood Angels this month- big bugs vs Dreadnoughts was fun for everyone- especially when the Norn whiffs their attacks to kill a dreadnought, dies to the return attack, then blows up to kill the dreadnought and a whole bunch of others things....

40k. It's a silly game, that I am really enjoying!

The Norn detonates shortly after this....
4. Play a game of not-40k each month

It was another game of Silver Bayonet, which saw the Afghani seeking to raid a long forgotten temple, before the Highlanders could beat them to it!

It quickly turned into a game of "don't die to the Monsters", as mini-Pooch took control of the monsters, and proceeded to do 80% of the casualties recieved in the game...

Afghani positions at the start of the game

That's a mummy, a giant viper and a snake swarm. And one soon to be very dead Afghan.

Revenant vs Mullah. Not ideal.

The mummy scared everyone away, but not before some looting was had!

Silver Bayonet continues to be an awesome game, especially when you play it on cool terrain like that too!

It's looking like travel is the order of the day in September, so I might not get on very well with gaming!

Pooch's July updates- Afgans and WW2 US

What is this?

Two on time blog posts in a row?

Madness. It won't last....

1. Paint something bought before 2024

Finishing up my early and mid war Afrika Korps army last month made me look over to the pile of unpainted Late War US, realising that I needed to do something similar to knock them off too.

So with that in mind, I got to work! Progress for this month was to knock off key pieces of a Late War Tank Destroyer company, namely:

A Company HQ

A Recon platoon

A Platoon of M36 Jacksons

Close up on a Jackson

Thankfully the techniques I used on the army in the past came back to me quite well- next up I need to paint some infantry!

2. Paint something bought in 2024

Along with resolving myself to knock off the Late War US, I decided I really wanted to finish up all of my Tyranids too. So with that in mind, I'm going to keep a focus on finishing something each month, just to keep the momentum up. This month, it was two Lictors:

It's no secret that as a group, we all love the Silver Bayonet game. So with the release of the recent Egypt book, it was an easy sell for me to pull together some bits and pieces from Wargames Atlantic added to 3d prints by Potbelly to make up a cool looking Afghan force!

Conscript, Leader and Mullah
I opted for my Leader to have a horse!

Two Bedouin

As well as their mounted versions!

And three Irregulars to round out the force.

3. Play a game of 40k each month
This month, the Tyranids took on some Grey Knights...

Big bugs stalking through the ruins of an Imperial Hive....

The Norn just wants to introduce you to the benevolence of the Great Devourer.....

Overall it was a win to the bugs- teleporting shenanagins was trumped by very hungry monsters....

4. Play a game of not-40k each month

And for a game of not-40k, I got the Afghans out for their first game!

Horsemen capturing the sand dune....

That's not any camel.... it's a Zombie Camel!

This was the first of four camels my leader dispatched in the battle....

And I managed to do all of that this month, including having 3 weeks overseas... not a bad effort at all!

Pooch's June- Finishing the DAK

Now back to your regularly scheduled on time updates!

1. Paint something bought before 2024

I mentioned last month that my goal was to finish up the last of my DAK, which at the start of last month looked something like this:

The "to do pile".....

I made some great progress last month, but how close did I get to finishing up the rest of them?

Well, I finished these.....

Three PaK 38 AT guns

Three PaK 36(r) AT Guns

Three more PaK 36(r) AT Guns

And an Early War Panzergrenadier platoon, including 5cm Light Mortar and AT Rifle

So in terms of the "how did I get on"..... well.... They are all done.

Completed.

Done and dusted.

Now I'm looking at my Late War US Army, and wondering if I don't need to do exactly the same process to help get them done too!

2. Paint something bought in 2024

You knew this was going to be more bugs didn't you?

A Winged Hive Tyrant

The wings are really big!

An Exocrine. that's a really big gun!

Not built for close combat at all.....

Neurolictor. Because nothing is quite as creepy as getting brain cuddles from a bug monster....

"My what a big brain you have...."

3. Play a game of 40k each month

The Tyranids had a match up with some Blood Angels, and with some good dice to start the game (Zoanthropes tagging a Ballistus Dreadnought), the bugs were able to chomp their way through the crunchy red M&Ms!

Deathleaper introducing himself to some Incursors!

4. Play a game of not-40k each month

Mini Pooch and I used his new 40k miniatures, and played a Sci-Fi version of Silver Bayonet. We whipped up some house rules for things like Drones, Rail Rifles and other fun Sci-Fi elements so that he could play his T'au against a bunch of Tyranid Bugs. Otherwise the game play worked as per the main rules, mechanically I kept as much the same as I could!

Most of the rules were being adapted and worked on the fly, which meant I wasn't thinking about photos, so instead you can have a posed shot from after the game, once I remembered I needed to take at least one photo....

Rail Rifles definitely accounted for a good number of bugs!

And that's it! Next month is going to be a bit of a messy one for me with a whole lot of travelling, so might be hard pressed to get everything done.... we will see!

Pooch's May- Bugs, DAK and Tribal- oh my!

So, a very late blog, but that's not an indication that I haven't been making a bunch of progress- if anything, it's proving that the opposite is true!

1. Paint something bought before 2024

So, I got a bit inspired with how well the few pieces of DAK I painted last month went, and decided to actually finish all of the rest of my DAK- I've had them for years, and it was time that I actually finished them all up so that I can play a whole host of different options in my games of Flames of War!

This is everything that needs to be painted.....

So if that's everything I need to get done, how far along did I get?

Well....

Two 75mm Infantry Guns, figures from Battlefront but guns from Potbelly Miniatrues

Two HMG teams

Three Panzer IVs

Another view of the 3 Panzer IVs

Comparison in barrels

1 251/1C halftrack

And last but not least, a battery of 105mm artillery!

In short, a whole lot of progress, but I've got to do a proper push if I want to get them all done in June!

2. Paint something bought in 2024

It wouldn't be a blog from me this year, if there wasn't a whole bunch of new Tyranids in it. So this month, I finished up...

Deathleaper. Because, something has to make you scared of the dark!

It's weird skirt tail thing is cool

"Who has for sword arms and a bad attitude? This guy"

Swarmlord's back

Another view of the Swarmlord

I've got lots of bugs to go, but this is still progress!

3. Play a game of 40k each month

I failed miserably on taking photos for this one, but Pooch Jr and I had a game of Combat Patrol, where they borrowed some Necrons I have been painting for a commission, fighting against my Tyranids.

They enjoyed it, so more games will be in order!

4. Play a game of not-40k each month

I got the Vikings I painted last month out out for a game of Tribal (pick it up here). The game saw my Vikings taking on some Ewoks, lead by Chewbacca!

It was a topsy turvy game, while the Vikings started well, and ended up on top, some great play in the last few turns saw the Ewoks emerge victorious.

Vikings advancing

Vikings taking down some Rebels

Chewie vs Banner bearer. The Scout Trooper WAS harmed in the making of this video

All in all, Tribal was an enjoyable game, I'll be definitely playing it again for sure.
