Pooch's September Update

Apparently September is now done too?

I am starting to be at risk of not completing a few of these goals!

1. Paint a Kings of War Army- DONE

2. Create a table of terrain to support a game- In progress!
Errrr... still no more progress....

3. Complete the 6mm Apocalypse Challenge- In progress!
You know how last month I bought a Knight Porphyrion, and how they come in boxes of two?

No surprises for this month's painting then!

Alongside the Acastus we have another Heavy Weapon team with it's Chimera, and an Officer of the Fleet.

No clue what'll be next month however!

4. Run a narrative campaign for the group- not started

Ok, this one is probably the one which is most at risk of me failing!

5. Add a new detachment to one of my 40k armies- DONE
Now I am calling this one done. This month I finished up the Scout squad, now with 5 Scouts, 4 with Shotguns and one with a Heavy Bolter. All ready to do drive by shotgunning from the Landspeeder Storm.

Is it good? No. Does that matter? Also no! I think that's the Storm Lords done for now, not sure what I would add, even if I was going to....

6. Buy a starter box and paint all of it- Some progress

Hopefully in October I will finish this one!

7. Paint a Space Marine Heroes Series- DONE

8. Update a 15mm Napoleonic army for Blackpowder- not even started!

Ummm.... Maybe I'll do some in October?

9. Paint a stand alone force- DONE

1
0. Update and improve a table of terrain- DONE

11. Paint a Flames of War Army (In progress)

No further progress, but I'm taking it to a tournament in October....

12. Finish what I should have finished last year- DONE

Ok... so some done, some not. Three months to go!

Pooch
Morty is disappointed that only three months remain, with many objectives still to go....

Pooch's August Update

And with that, August is done too. Jeepers this year is odd.....

But still, progress continues! This month was a bit of a bitsy one, finishing up some things, and getting things prepped for future months. Still finished some things tho...

1. Paint a Kings of War Army- DONE
I finished up my Goblin Army a few months back, but actually had a couple more figures on back order. The Mollog's mob box was stuck in COVID related delays for months, so much so that I had mostly forgotten I had ordered it!

A bit of paint later, and voila! Another Squig for my units (I was short one), and a Troll Boss (who my army obviously needed).

Flying Squig and Mollog

And now the Goblin army is totally done!

2. Create a table of terrain to support a game- In progress!
Still no further progress.... I really should fix that!

3. Complete the 6mm Apocalypse Challenge- In progress!
I've been a little light on inspiration of late, so when I spotted that Kapiti Hobbies had a box of Acastus Knight Porphyrion in stock, I couldn't resist the opportunity! It helped a lot that I had just sold some models, so the shared bank account was none the wiser either.....

One Acastus is 38 points, so I finished up yet another Leman Russ, this time an Executioner. The turret was 3d printed, and looks fantastic.

Porphyrion and friend

Little wee Leman Russ....

Next month? Well, the box did have two Acastus in it.... But I have no clue what I'll do for the other 12 points!

4. Run a narrative campaign for the group- not started

With the kids starting sport on Saturdays, it means that  I haven't been to the club in a while. I still have a plan, just haven't had the chance to action it.

5. Add a new detachment to one of my 40k armies- DONE (but ongoing)

More progress! Two Scouts ready to jump out of the Landspeeder Storm. One with a Heavy Bolter, one with a shotgun. Bases 3d printed, and heads were again supplied by Anvil Industries, because even in the grimdark future, you still need to wear a helmet.

Two scouts!

And with their transport

6. Buy a starter box and paint all of it- Some progress

Some progress made here, but it continues to be a secret.

7. Paint a Space Marine Heroes Series- DONE

8. Update a 15mm Napoleonic army for Blackpowder- not even started!

Er. Still nothing here..... I should probably make a start on it, eek!

9. Paint a stand alone force- DONE

1
0. Update and improve a table of terrain- DONE

11. Paint a Flames of War Army (In progress)

Progress on this one! And maybe, could call it a completed army? I painted up 5 76mm Shermans from Plastic Soldier Company. They aren't as nice to assemble as the Battlefront Shermans, but they look good now that they are fully painted.

5 76mm Shermans

Another angle on 5 76mm Shermans!

With that, I now have my 80 point list all painted, which I will be taking to Flamescon in Auckland next month (lockdown willing!). I'd still like to finish up my 3rd Para platoon, and paint some 75mm guns before I call this one "finished" however....

The whole army as it stands...

12. Finish what I should have finished last year- DONE

And that's it, on to September!

Pooch
Morty is cautiously optimistic about the progress that has been made...

Pooch's April Update

Wow, April was LOONY. Lockdown, work was crazy, working from home and everything else that was going on.

And I am massively delayed in getting this blog post up, so sorry for that. But, I did lots of painting and preparation, so that makes up for it right?

1. Paint a Kings of War Army- In progress!
This month was pretty monumental in making progress onto finishing the goblins. Excitingly, this month also was the start of me basing them too. I used one of the Green Stuff world rollers, and a variety of other pieces to make the bases.

I am ridiculously happy with the finished product, here is my first legion of Goblins.:

The legion base, fully painted.

The base, loaded with Goblins

Close up on the 3d printed Dwarf statue
More pictures next month, when I have hopefully finished the whole army......

2. Create a table of terrain to support a game

No progress, I looked at the packets of terrain I had to build, and then promptly put it at the bottom of the queue. I bought some more stuff to add to it tho.... so that counts as progress?

3. Complete the 6mm Apocalypse Challenge- In progress!
Well, another month, and again, I finished up the 6mm in the first few days. I mean, finishing it on day 3 was slow for me!

This month it is 3 Leman Russ, a third Hellhound, a Salamander Scout Vehicle (converted from a spare hull, and 3d printed crew), and a base of Rough Riders (who are ABSOLUTE TRASH).

This month's painting, I have been sure to remember to put them all in this time!

Close up of my converted Salamander Scout Vehicle

Oh, and I repainted the Valkyrie objective, and finished up a wrecked Warlord Titan head from Adeptus Titanicus!

And that's 200 PL of Imperial Guard!

But then McZ said "why don't we just paint another 50 PL? And so I did:

"It's a Baneblade!"

4. Run a narrative campaign for the group

Planning is well underway, but the whole lockdown thing means that no progress so far.

5. Add a new detachment to one of my 40k armies (In progress!)

Add to the Death Guard? Nope!

Add to the Krieg? Nope!

Add to the Storm Lords? Absolutely.

And here is the first model completed for it, a Space Marine Lieutenant. Made from a spare Space Marine hero, with parts out of my bits box. And a beaky helmet, because it is known that they are the coolest. It's missing a tuft from the base, but I am short on stock (and can't remember which tuft it is that I need to order!)

6. Buy a starter box and paint all of it

Nothing further here, I haven't seen a starter box that tempts me. Any ideas?

7. Paint a Space Marine Heroes Series (In progress)

Wait, more progress here too? I managed to get my hands on 8 of the Space Marine Heroes Series 3 blind boxes, in the hope that I would get one of each of the six different variant models. I got 5 of the 6. Damnit!

Still, I painted the 5 I did get, while I wait for the 6th to arrive from eBay....

The completed 5- more yellowy in this photo than in person!

Nurgling along for the ride doing some flailing

8. Update a 15mm Napoleonic army for Blackpowder

Nothing further here.... Not even the lockdown could make me start this one yet!

9. Paint a stand alone force- DONE (again)

I have two young kids, therefore Frozen is a feature of my household. Last year I bought myself some figures to make a Frostgrave warband, loosely based off the movie Frozen. And in lockdown, I finally actually did something about it!

The whole warband!

The infantry- Fireforge Scandianvians
The unique infantry- Priest, Marksman, Ranger, Barbarian, Thief. All potential RPG characters for me, who have now found a home!

The main characters, and two very large dogs!

Elsa and Anna, who got a new ice sword to match the one she got in the second movie.
And Olaf, in the sculpting stage

And painted!
10. Update and improve a table of terrain- DONE

The Wild West town of Whisper Creek has slowly been expanding over the past couple of years as I add more and more of the exceptional 4ground models into my collection. At the start of lockdown I had a bunch of boxes of kits staring at me, and they had been staring at me for the better part of a year (if not two!), so over Easter I built everything I had to do for my Wild West town!

Here are some snapshots of two of the most impressive parts of that, the Sassy Gal Saloon, and the passenger train.

Three stories of awesome

Leadlight windows!

Interior detail!

Stairs!
Yes, you can do circles in laser cut MDF!

This is a big locomotive, and was a complex build

Carriages!
I will be getting all of this out onto the table for the narrative campaign (whenever we are both able to run it, and can schedule it in!), so will make sure to have some much better pictures then.

11. Paint a Flames of War Army (In progress)

A short update on my US paras. Basically it amounts to SIX new infantry stands painted. Not exactly monumental, but progress none the less. The issue is waiting for more models to arrive!

No new picture, because they look EXACTLY the same as the ones you saw last month....

12. Finish what I should have finished last year- DONE (again)

This one is some more 15mm vehicles, 3 Panthers in fact which I was meant to have done for the DDay game we had last year. Nice and simple!

And that's it, May will be equally big, I promise!

Pooch's February 2020 update

February was a bit of a quiet month on the painting front- ridiculously busy on the work front for most of it which meant my painting time and desire were pretty low. Still, I managed to get some stuff done!

I have also swapped out one of my goals (I'm making the rules of this, so it's absolutely a thing I can do). Anyway, onto the progress.....

1. Paint a Kings of War Army- In progress
Still no basing on these, but I did finish up a unit of Spitters (archers).

Maybe I'll do some basing next month?

2. Create a table of terrain to support a game

No progress.

3. Complete the 6mm Apocalypse Challenge- In progress!
Like last month, I think I might have finished these up in the first day of February...

But, a mechanised infantry platoon of 3 squads each with a Heavy Bolter, a Command Squad with a flag, medic and heavy bolter, a Company Commander and Nork Deddog!

The infantry were 3d printed by one of our local group, and have come out really, really well.

50 PL of mechanised infantry!

Close up on the Command Squad

One of the Chimeras

100 PL so far!

Next up?

A bit of variety!

4. Run a narrative campaign for the group

Nothing further here....

5. Add a new detachment to one of my 40k armies

Nothing further here....

6. Buy a starter box and paint all of it

Nothing further here....

7. Paint a Space Marine Heroes Series

Nothing further here....

8. Update a 15mm Napoleonic army for Blackpowder

Nothing further here....

9. Paint a stand alone force- DONE

10. Update and improve a table of terrain
Nothing further here....

11. Paint a Flames of War Army (NEW)

Ok, so I have swapped out one of my goals- this one used to be playing a game and sharing a picture of it each month. But... I realised I needed to paint a new army for Panzershrek this year, and I may have failed at that this month.... I will still aim to share a picture of a game I have played however!

So what army then? Well, continuing my 82nd Airborne theme, and with a bunch of brand new figures released from Battlefront, the answer was easy!

This is where I got to in February- my Command HQ, and half of my first Para Platoon.

Points completed: 3

12. Finish what I should have finished last year- DONE!

You remember how I whinged about painting Storm Lords? Well.....

A Chapter Ancient and Apothecary. I meant to have them done last year but ran out of steam for finishing more Storm Lords. Motivation struck, so here they are!

The banner is freehand, which I then took to with some burning matches to make it look more "flag in a combat zone" rather than "flag on parade". Quite happy with how the effect came out, it's possible there may be some more Storm Lords in my future....

And that's it!
